Yesterday, went to Mount Vernon for my dojo's 2nd anniversary. Sounds familiar? Yeah it is the so-called gurkha camp! Where the gurkha contingent stays! So excited, but the guards at the main gate were probably the only gurkhas we (me, vincent, his gf and bendric) saw at Mt Vernon, excluding those we saw flying on the road on our way there (they ran too fast). Went there because my instructor lives there - as he is Head Ops, GC - and he decided to host the anniversary at his house.
Discovered that he speaks nepalese, was the winner of a senior manhunt and was the aide de camp of the late president Wee.
And as usual, I left myself out of any socialising and didn't interact much. Reason for my existence was only to finish the catered nepalese food. Perhaps, the highlight of the day was getting to watch 3 videos, 2 on gurkha trainings and 1 featuring an 8th Dan aikidoka. Quite intersting as he 'threw' ppl around without any physical contact. A 3rd dan present then at the anniversary celebration explained that the 8th dan guy managed to do so because he had very good understanding of 3 concepts - extension, space and a third one which I had guiltily forgotten.
Yes, I remembered the first 2 because I suck at them.
How? Think I'll buy a mat soon to practise and to meditate on.
Have a pre-course test on Monday and I haven't studied the course material. Hai, lazy to study. Hope won't fail.
